History

DPR Associates, Inc was established in 1974 as a partnership of four Landscape Architects.  The partners had a variety of work experience in the Southeast, from Washington DC to Florida.  DPR has been operating in Charlotte longer than any other Landscape Architecture and Engineering firm.  We have had a significant role in making the Charlotte area a great place to live and work.  The firm has provided site design for such notable projects as the 60-story Bank of America building, Founder's Hall, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, Carolinas Medical Center Bed Tower Addition, Latta Plantation Park, Reedy Creek Park, & Charlotte Distribution Center; in-fill developments such as Carol Hall & Whitehall; and residential communities such as Stonecroft & Medearis.

DPR's first office was located on Providence Road, in historic Myers park.  In 1980, to accommodate a growing staff, DPR acquired and renovated a former 7th Street residence in the historic Elizabeth neighborhood.  In 1982, DPR became the first N.C. Landscape Architecture practice in recent history to add in-house civil engineering to provide comprehensive  land development services.

DPR moved in 1995 to our present location on Hawthorne Lane.  Remaining in the Elizabeth neighborhood, we are conveniently located to Charlotte uptown, I-277, I-77, and I-85.

Two of the original founding partners, Lee McLaren and Tom Duggins, remain with DPR today.  DPR currrently employs over twenty experienced and dedicated Landscape Architecture and Civil Engineering professionals.  In September 2008, DPR will celebrate our 35th year of service throughout North and South Carolina.
